Writing a blog about cyber security is something I would
have never thought I would sit here and do let alone understand the subject
matter. While learning about cyber security and how detailed the subject matter
is, plus also understanding how deeply we really lean on technology in our
everyday lives…it’s no wonder our IT professionals and security folks are so
busy protecting us from malicious attacks that affect our data in cyber space.
Reading an article today about how things are getting worse in
our cyber world of data and I can see that they are. The FBI says that these
threats are a risk to damage our economy and our national security. I knew the
national security issues, as mentioned in the discussion of 9/11 during this
article but never actual thought about the economy. Hasn’t that been “roughed”
up enough? But really, is nothing is sacred to these potential hackers. Ok, silly question with all that money floating around...But I wonder
what is going to be next that we never thought of?
What can be done? Well too bad we couldn’t have an Avengers
type team of security folks that could stop these crimes…well maybe if we all
ban together. The FBI agrees that “we must adopt a unified approach”. While I
agree, I am not sure how we could get everyone on the same page with level of
importance and when to be reactive or proactive. Plus, how can we predict where or
when or whats next?
While collaboration and information sharing is a great start
to fighting this fight, I am not sure this will do more than what we already do in
our organizations. Too bad there wasn’t a creative way to out think these
criminals before they get what they want. Or maybe we need to change our
thinking in our data processing and information sharing….
